Photo Gallery: Celebrating National Parks Week

By Michael Lanza

This is National Parks Week, a good time to contemplate the writer and historian Wallace Stegner’s famous quote: “National parks are the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst.” Are you planning to visit a national park this week or this year? Here’s a gallery of photos from several parks I’ve visited (including Olympic, photo above) to offer a little inspiration.

You’ll find stories, photos, videos, and trip-planning tips and information at The Big Outside about adventures in many national parks, and I’m planning to post more parks stories in the coming weeks and months.

See a gallery of photos from (almost) every national park I’ve visited, and a menu of all of my stories about parks at my All National Parks Trips sub-page at my All Trips page.

If you’re not visiting a park this week, celebrate National Parks Week by starting the planning now for your next park trip. After all, life’s too short to not visit at least one national park every year.

The Big Outside is proud to partner with these sponsors and supporters of national parks. Please help support my blog by liking and following my sponsors on Facebook and other social media and telling them you appreciate their support for The Big Outside.

  1. We love the national parks and, being retired, have the time to visit several each year. We spend two months serving as campground hosts in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you want a close up, day-to-day look at a national park, send an email to me at [email protected] and I’ll put you on my distribution list. I won’t have internet access (I didn’t last year), so I write my journal in Word and email it out when we go to town for groceries once a week.

  2. National Parks are grate ! The problem some of us have is we don’t get the time or have the money to make the trip. So we try to do one trip a year to a National Park. But don’t make that the only trip to the outdoors ! We found that are locat State Parks are fantastic and affordable. There’s nothing like being in the great outdoors !
