Thank you for providing a wonderful blog filled with amazing photos and inspiring trips. I enjoy your family adventures section, as I love taking my kids with me to enjoy the outdoors. I live in Utah so the options are endless.
I am heading to Glacier National Park with my husband for our 20th anniversary and am wondering what your hike suggestions would be. Continue reading →
Thank you for such a comprehensive site. It is a joy to read and inspires so many travel dreams! I was pouring over all your stories on Glacier but I have a question. A friend and I just decided to go to Glacier in mid-September and would like to do a backpacking trip for two or three nights. We would appreciate something beautiful, somewhat challenging, but most of all, solitude. It seems we are late to get a reservation on top trails, and it seems like a good opportunity to take less-traveled trails. Do you have any suggestions? Continue reading →
I found your blog through your “5 Perfect (Big) Days in Glacier National Park” post–fantastic-sounding hikes. If you have some time, I was looking for advice for an upcoming trip. I am traveling to Great Falls, Montana, soon for work, and I’ll have one day to explore Glacier National Park. Of course one day is not enough, but these are my circumstances. Anyway, my main question: What would you recommend for an eager hiker with one day to spend in paradise? Are there trails with a high wow-factor you can recommend that are likely to be open, even if the high country is snowed in? Continue reading →
We are planning a trip to Glacier National Park in August. We would like to take a short (two-night) backpacking trip while there. We are a couple in our late 50s and will be bringing our 20-year-old daughter. We have done a little backpacking, but are not very experienced. We are in good shape, though I don’t want anything really strenuous (unlike my husband and daughter). I read your piece about the Gunsight Pass Trail, and that sounds pretty good, but if you have other ideas I would love to hear them. We will be car camping and dayhiking the rest of the time (a total of a week), maybe staying in a lodge or hotel a couple of nights.
Thanks, love your blog!

My fifth-grade daughter and I spend most of our summer playing and hiking. We are upping our backpacking mileage each year and hope to be able to do the Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainier when she is 12. For this summer, we are looking to do a hike of about 60 to 75 miles. One possibility is the Pacific Crest Trail between Highway 50 and 80. It’s a beautiful route I’ve taken before. But I’m very open to other ideas. She’s tough and has built up to solid 10-mile days. Any help or direction you could give me would be great. I envy the time you have been able to spend in the wild.
