I’m admittedly a little behind the curve on this—these waffles have been on the market for a while. But I filled a zip-lock bag with them for a recent five-day backpacking trip with my wife, 11-year-old son, and nine-year-old daughter in Oregon’s Eagle Cap Wilderness—and they became an instant backcountry staple food for my family. These snacks are all you want backcountry food to be: tasty, non-perishable, almost indestructible, convenient, and packed with energy—very few foods deliver 160 calories per ounce, as these do. Best of all, my entire family loves every flavor (though honey, lemon, and chocolate were consensus faves)—including my picky daughter. We plowed through a full bag of them on this trip and will carry them on every family backcountry trip henceforth. Honey Stinger makes energy bars, chews, and gels that are tasty and nutritional, too.
