Minaret Lake, in the Ansel Adams Wilderness of the High Sierra, sits in a basin below a wall of imposing stone spires, the Minarets, that seem to shoot up like fireworks more than 2,000 feet above the lake. Those spires capture the full brightness of dawn and on calm mornings, when its waters remain as still as if they were solid rather than liquid, Minaret Lake displays a reflection of the Minarets that gives them the appearance of being cast from pure gold. There’s also a horizontally oriented version of this photo available.
