The spot I chose to camp on my first night of a solo, six-day hike through the Wind River Range that included a substantial piece of the Continental Divide Trail, turned out both serendipitous and to foreshadow other beautiful lakeside camps to follow on every night of that trip. I reached Lower Cook Lake, only about a half-mile off the CDT, and explored a bit until I discovered a secluded spot just above the lakeshore.
The sunset was one of the best I’ve enjoyed in the wilderness—ever. There are other images from that evening available for sale here, too.
