Sunset at Lower Cook Lake (horizontal no. 3)

After setting up camp at a secluded spot just above the shore of Lower Cook Lake, on the first night of a solo, six-day hike through the Wind River Range that included a substantial piece of the Continental Divide Trail, I awaited the sunset. And it rewarded my patience generously, burnishing the thin, patchy clouds with colors that kept shifting for what felt like a good long period of time before fading out like a campfire slowly dying.

The sunset over Lower Cook Lake was one of the best I””ve enjoyed in the wilderness—ever. There are other images from that evening””s sunset available for sale here, too.

Please note: This panoramic image’s measurements are not a standard 2/3 or 4/5 ratio, so this photo will require custom framing, which is more expensive than commercial frames available in stores.
