Sunset over Thousand Island Lake, along the John Muir Trail, Ansel Adams Wilderness (horizontal)

From our camp near the shore of Thousand Island Lake, along the John Muir Trail in the Ansel Adams Wilderness, layers of clouds scudded rapidly past overhead, catching the sunset light in ways that radically changed the scene every few minutes. This carried on for what seemed like maybe an hour—unquestionably one of the most dramatic sunsets I’ve ever seen.
