The Twin Lakes aren’t among the largest in Idaho’s Sawtooths, but they sit not far below the pass on the Alice-Toxaway Divide separating the Alice Lake basin from the Toxaway Lake basin, which means many Sawtooths aficionados are familiar with these high lakes. On a two-family backpacking trip that included several teenagers who valued their sleep, I had plenty of early-morning time in our campsite at the Twin Lakes to wait until the light was just right to photograph the calm upper lake reflecting the sunlit slopes below the Alice-Toxaway Divide and Snowyside Peak above the pass.
