There’s a point along the very popular and beautiful Mist Trail in Yosemite National Park where hikers pass below 317-foot Vernal Fall, typically getting showered by the mist created by the waterfall—thus the name “Mist” Trail. At certain times of day, the angle of the sun through the mist creates a rainbow at the base of the waterfall. The 6.3-mile loop hike combining the northernmost segment of the John Muir Trail and the Mist Trail passes below both Vernal Fall and 594-foot Nevada Fall (shown in another photo also available). There’s also a vertical image of Vernal Fall and its rainbow available.
