Flanked by jagged peaks in northern Glacier National Park, along the Northern Loop that’s popular with backpackers, Elizabeth Lake is a well-known and beloved spot with two backcountry campgrounds for backpackers. I shot this photo while the lake was perfectly still on a calm, cool September morning, after hearing an elk bugling nearby while we were in our camp and watching a black bear with a cub walking across a mountainside high above us as we hiked the trail along the lake. There’s also a vertical version of this photo available.
