Grand Teton National Park Outdoor Photography

Let one of more of these photos bring you back to the Tetons again and again.

The first time I ever camped a night in the backcountry along the Teton Crest Trail in Grand Teton National Park, on Death Canyon Shelf, a broad, wildflower-carpeted bench at 9,500 feet, I awoke to the sound of clomping outside my tent. I unzipped the door to investigate—and saw a giant bull elk standing just outside my nylon walls, almost close enough to touch.

That elk encounter set the tone for what turned into one of the most memorable, multi-day, wilderness hikes of my life—one that inspired a love affair with the Teton Range that has spanned probably more than two dozen trips across more than three decades.

And while every elk, moose, marmot, pika, bear, and other wildlife sighting has felt special and virtually every backcountry campsite extraordinary, the appeal of these peaks all comes back to that majestic, jagged skyline.

Whether you’ve been there once or dozens of times, backpacked the entire Teton Crest Trail or simply dayhiked up one of the deep, rugged canyons, these photos will help you relive the Tetons every time to gaze at them.
