Iceland’s Laugavegur Trail Outdoor Photography

Your walls will captivate visitors with these photos from the world-famous Laugavegur Trail.

In Iceland, I have often found that the combination of frequently fast-shifting light, thanks to clouds charging across the sky, and a landscape that seems shockingly colorful despite such a dearth of vegetation (especially any plants more than ankle-tall), often creates ideal conditions for landscape photography.

I shot these photos on the second afternoon and third morning of my family’s six-day trek on Iceland’s world-famous Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trails, one from near the shore of Álftavatn Lake on the afternoon we arrived there, and the other from a ridge overlooking the lake, which I reached on a relatively short hike off the Laugavegur Trail when we continued south on it the next morning.
